Joseph Sawyer, formerly known as Joe Gacy, revealed that WWE had already been showing signs it was preparing to break up The Wyatt Sicks before releasing every member of the group on April 24.
During an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Sawyer explained that he noticed something was different during WrestleMania 42 week in Las Vegas. At the time, the group was still nearing the end of its lengthy feud with MFT, but several backstage decisions raised questions.
“We were surprised as well, and I know we were talking about it. I’m shocked that they let all of us go. I’m shocked that they let Taylor go. I thought for sure if it’s gonna be us, he’ll still be there doing something.
But it was strange because I remember it too. I was about to get a shower, and my phone rang and I saw it was a Stanford number. I was like well, that could either be good or bad. So I took a shower, got out of the shower, and then the group had a group chat.
So I just texted in the group chat like, ‘Hey, did anyone else get a phone call?’ And I think it was Dexter, who was like, ‘Yep.’ I was like, ‘Is it what I think it is?’ And he was like, ‘Yep.’ I was like, all right, then. So I called them back and then had that conversation.”
The strongest sign came after their decisive loss to MFT on the April 17 episode of SmackDown. Sawyer said even other wrestlers thought the result was strange.
Despite those issues, Sawyer and his tag team partner Lumis won the WWE Tag Team Championship and held the titles from July 2025 until January 2026.
