Kevin Knight looks to be closing in on a permanent spot among AEW‘s top stars.
According to Fightful Select, sources within the company said the current TNT Champion has been discussed as a possible contender for the AEW World Championship. The report notes that the possibility of that match taking place at Redemption, AEW’s next pay-per-view, hasn’t been completely ruled out.
The event is set for July 26 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. Kenny Omega is the reigning AEW World Champion after defeating MJF at Beach Break on July 8, capturing the title for the second time in his career.
Knight has already gotten two shots at the world title this year. MJF beat him in March, and in May, he came up short against Darby Allin in the main event of AEW Dynamite. Despite the losses, both performances were considered impressive.
Fightful Select also heard that Knight is being considered for feuds against other wrestlers seen as part of the AEW World Championship picture.
One of the possible names is Adam Page. On the latest episode of AEW Collision, Hangman confirmed he will never compete for the AEW World Championship again, but he named Knight’s TNT Championship among his new targets.
So far, no match involving Knight has been announced for Redemption.
