EK Prosper took another major step toward championship gold on Tuesday’s NXT. On the August 18 episode, Prosper defeated La Parka, Romeo Moreno, and Tristan Angels in a Fatal 4-Way to become the number one contender for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship.
The match opened the show at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, and featured several highlight-reel spots. Down the stretch, La Parka connected with a Spanish Fly on Moreno, but Prosper broke up the pin by landing a Frog Splash on top of him.
Moments later, Prosper drilled Tristan Angels with a Shining Wizard and caught Romeo Moreno with a running knee. With all three opponents down, Prosper climbed to the top rope and hit a Moonsault on Moreno to secure the victory.
This won’t be Prosper’s first title match on NXT. Back on April 21, he challenged for the vacant WWE Men’s Speed Championship against Lexis King but came up short after interference from Arianna Grace.
Rey Fenix is currently in his second reign as AAA World Cruiserweight Champion. He captured the title by defeating Laredo Kid on May 30 at Noche de Los Grandes and most recently retained it against Mini Vikingo at Verano de Escándalo.
There is no word yet on when or on which show the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship defense will take place.
