Rey Fenix made a surprise appearance on Tuesday’s WWE NXT at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. The AAA World Cruiserweight Champion interrupted Cruz Montana to open the show.
Fenix’s appearance came just one day after he defeated El Fiscal on RAW, advancing in the tournament to determine Roman Reigns’ next World Heavyweight Championship challenger. Dragon Lee also moved forward by beating El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., setting up a semifinal matchup between the two.
Montana had come out to confront Zilla Fatu, who attacked both him and Grayson Waller last week during their match to determine a new #1 contender for the NXT Championship, causing the bout to be thrown out.
After being told Fatu hadn’t arrived at the building yet, Montana was caught off guard by Fenix’s entrance.
Fenix said he was at NXT to find out who would be his next challenger and showed his support for Montana. Montana recalled their long shared history across promotions including AAA and TNA and praised Fenix for the way he represents Latino culture. Montana closed out the segment by warning that he’d be waiting for Zilla Fatu in the NXT parking lot.
