Seth Rollins has been off WWE television since SummerSlam on August 2, when he lost to Roman Reigns in the Night 2 main event with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Rollins is dealing with a minor injury and that WWE decided to give him more time off to recover as a result.
Meltzer noted that the injury does not rule out a return this week or in the coming weeks if necessary, though that is not the most likely outcome. For now, Meltzer added, WWE wants to bring Rollins back to television at a point where his return can make a bigger impact.
Rollins has been absent from Raw, but not from the ring. In September, he wrestled at four non-televised live events during WWE’s South America tour, with stops in Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina and Chile. The injury may have come from one of those matches.
At all four shows, Rollins teamed with LA Knight and Solo Sikoa to defeat The Bloodline trio of Jacob Fatu, Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select previously reported that WWE at one point considered bringing Rollins back at Money in the Bank, set for Saturday, October 10, in New Orleans. Those plans have changed, however.
Rollins is advertised for a dark match after tonight’s SmackDown at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana. He is expected to team with Knight and Sikoa again, this time against Royce Keys, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price of 946.
Knight is set to face Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank, which will begin at 6 p.m. ET and stream on the ESPN App in the United States.
