Sami Zayn made his return to WWE television Friday night on SmackDown, held at MVP Arena in Albany, New York.

Zayn hadn’t been seen on WWE programming since the July 6 episode of Raw, when he lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to CM Punk. Punk filled in for Cody Rhodes that night after Rhodes had been brutally attacked by Gunther before the match.

In Friday’s main event, Rhodes faced Gunther. Punk came out during the match and stayed close to the announce table, keeping a close eye on his future SummerSlam opponent.

Zayn, however, emerged from the crowd and attacked Punk, throwing the champion onto the announce table. Rhodes tried to step in and even connected with a suicide dive on Zayn, which eventually led to the match ending in a disqualification.

After the bell, Punk came off the announce table with a clothesline on Zayn. Gunther then jumped into the chaos and started trading blows with Punk.

Multiple referees and producers rushed to the ring to separate the four men, but they couldn’t get the situation under control, and the show went off the air with the chaos still raging.

Zayn and Gunther will face Punk and Rhodes this Saturday at Saturday Night’s Main Event, held at Madison Square Garden. Should they win, they’ll be added to the Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam, turning Punk vs. Rhodes into a Fatal 4-Way Match.
