[Spoilers] Johnny Gargano Goes Off-Script After Loss to CM Punk at WWE SmackDown Tapings

Johnny Gargano had a special night in front of fans from his hometown during the tapings of the next Friday Night SmackDown, held this Friday in Cleveland, Ohio. The wrestler received an Undisputed WWE Championship opportunity from CM Punk and finally dropped the storyline where he was lying on boxes backstage.

Gargano returned to the ring for the first time since the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal in April and also got back his old theme “Rebel Heart.” In the main event, however, CM Punk retained the title. After the tapings ended, Punk and Cody Rhodes called Gargano back to the ring to address the crowd.

Johnny Wrestling recalled that before arriving in WWE, he was in the stands in Cleveland watching a young Punk wrestle for the company. Gargano used his own journey to deliver a message to the fans.

“If you have a dream, if you wanna do something, if you work hard enough, you can make anything happen in this lifetime.”

The moment Gargano referenced took place in July 2005 at what was then the Gund Arena. That night, Punk faced Rob Begley during Sunday Night Heat tapings, accompanied by Alexis Laree, now known as Mickie James.

Gargano also revealed that he turns to Cody Rhodes when he needs to make important decisions about his career, noting that both Rhodes and Punk opened doors for wrestlers like him. Candice LeRae was also honored by her husband for her support during the final months of his storyline.

Despite the emotional tone of the speech sparking speculation on social media, there is no confirmation that Gargano is leaving WWE. Similar rumors surfaced this week because of his bio on X but were debunked, with the wrestler still listed on the company’s internal roster.
