Stephanie Vaquer confirmed that she suffered an ankle sprain during WWE Money in the Bank, held last Saturday in New Orleans. Despite the problem, she believes she will need only a few days of rest to recover.
In an interview with TJ Sports: Lucha Wrestling, Vaquer explained the situation.
“I twisted my ankle. It’s not a big deal.”
The statement reinforces what Dave Meltzer had reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that the injury was legitimate but is not expected to keep her out of action for long.
However, Vaquer showed that she was more bothered by the loss of the Women’s World Championship to Liv Morgan, in a Triple Threat Match that also featured Becky Lynch, than by the injury itself.
“But more than anything, I’m very disappointed about that match. I would have loved to be able to do this interview with you with the championship here on my shoulder, but I wasn’t able to retain it.”
Vaquer also talked about her mentality after the loss, guaranteeing that she intends to come back even stronger.
“Like I said, every time I lose, I come back stronger, and that’s my goal. You can’t beat someone who never gives up.”
The loss also caused new disagreements with Becky Lynch. The two confronted each other again on this week’s Monday Night RAW, when Vaquer appeared on crutches.
Finally, she admitted that she did not expect to leave Money in the Bank the way she did, but maintained her optimism about her recovery.
“So that’s the optimism I have right now, but yes, I’m disappointed. No, I didn’t expect something like that to happen at Money in the Bank, but we’re going to recover, like always.”
