New backstage details on Steve Maclin’s TNA departure are starting to emerge, just hours after the company confirmed his exit.
According to Fightful Select, Maclin had been very vocal about his creative frustrations since last year. He was also said to be one of several talents who did not believe TNA’s product had improved since the move to AMC.
TNA confirmed on Sunday, June 7, that it had come to terms on the release of Maclin and Myla Grace, effective immediately. The statement was very brief, only wishing both of them the best in their next steps.
Maclin addressed the situation on social media, saying he requested his release last week. The former world champion thanked the company for the last five years, but made it clear that he now intends to move forward.
His final match for TNA took place on the May 21 episode of TNA iMPACT!, when he was defeated by Mike Santana in a TNA World Championship match.
Maclin had been with TNA since 2021. During his run, he captured the TNA World Championship and also became a two-time TNA International Champion.
