Tay Melo Fuels WWE Return Rumors

The latest development surrounding Tay Melo’s wrestling future came when she shared photos on social media from her time in WWE‘s Mae Young Classic.

The post is notable mainly because of Melo’s current situation. In July, Tony Khan revealed that she asked for her release from AEW after the June 6 episode of Collision and said he would grant the request. Neither side has formally announced her release, however, and Melo is still listed on AEW’s official website.

Last month, Melo herself shot down talk that she had retired. A fan took a change to her Instagram bio as a sign that her career was over, and Melo replied that she has not retired yet.

Against that backdrop, the Mae Young Classic photos invite speculation about a return to WWE. Melo took part in both editions of the tournament. In 2017, competing as Taynara Conti, she lost to Lacey Evans in the first round. The following year, Melo defeated Jessie Elaban and advanced to the second round.

Speculation aside, no talks between Melo and WWE have been confirmed so far. That means the post could be read as a tease, or as nothing more than a look back at an important period in her career.

Melo has made it clear that she still plans to wrestle again, while her future after AEW remains up in the air.
