Add as a preferred source on Google The relationship between Kyle Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada, which had already been showing signs of strain, came to a head on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in Nashville, Tennessee.
Fletcher and Okada took on Brodido, the team of Bandido and Brody King. Late in the match, Okada went for a Rainmaker on King but caught Fletcher by accident. Bandido capitalized on the mistake, hitting the 21-Plex for the pin over Fletcher, the AEW International Champion.
After the match, Okada tried to apologize, but it wasn’t enough. Fletcher completely lost his patience, screaming in Okada’s face and blaming him for the loss, while Don Callis had to step in and send the Rainmaker backstage.
The tension didn’t begin this week. On the July 15 episode of Dynamite, Fletcher declared he would become the greatest International Champion in history, while Okada watched the promo, clearly unhappy.
Okada’s reaction makes sense — he held the International Championship for 316 days, from July 12, 2025, to May 24, 2026. Fletcher, for his part, has already beaten Okada in singles competition at the Continental Classic on November 26, 2025.
Fletcher will defend the title against Bandido at AEW Redemption this Sunday, July 26, in Montreal. The new conflict suggests the Don Callis Family’s internal issues could escalate on upcoming shows.
