Add as a preferred source on Google Trick Williams has occupied a rather unique position in WWE. Even though he’s been presented in different ways since arriving on the main roster, the current United States Champion doesn’t want to be defined strictly as either a heel or a babyface.
In an interview with Rompipallone, Williams said he prefers to let each situation dictate his approach, leaving it up to the fans to decide how his character comes across.
“Man, you know, the thing for me is, and I can only speak for myself. I can’t speak for everybody else. You know, I’m not… I don’t want to put myself in a box where, ‘oh, I’m good and I do good all the time,’ or ‘I’m bad and I just do bad things and think bad things.’ You know, I’m human. That means sometimes I’m good, sometimes, I’m bad you know, in some people’s story, I may be the villain, and in some people’s story, I may be the hero, now I can live with either or, as long as the people are loud, then I’m happy.”
This wasn’t the first time Williams has spoken on the subject. During an April 28 interview with the Michael Fairman Channel, he also said he wasn’t a heel or a babyface.
That trait has been evident in the current Friday Night SmackDown storyline. His July 10 match against Carmelo Hayes ended in a no-contest after Baron Corbin returned and attacked both men. The following week, Williams again went after Hayes, but he also directed his taunts at Corbin himself.
Williams won the United States Championship at WrestleMania 42 on April 19 and has already defended the title against Sami Zayn and Ricky Saints. Last night, he also defeated Laredo Kid during the Countdown to WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event at Madison Square Garden.
