Trick Williams is still the United States Champion. At WWE Night of Champions on Saturday, held at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Williams defeated Ricky Saints to retain the title.
The match got off to a rough start for Williams. Lil Yachty, who has regularly accompanied the champion, was ejected from ringside after Saints faked an attack, giving the challenger a key advantage.
Even without his ally, Trick managed to stay alive in the match. Saints tried to capitalize on the opening created by the ejection and take control of the pace, but he could not turn it into a win.
In the end, Williams regained control when it mattered most. After escaping Saints’ biggest offensive sequence, the champion hit the Trick Shot and scored the pinfall to retain the title.

The match also carried some recent context. On the previous night’s Friday Night SmackDown, Saints attacked Williams and Lil Yachty with low blows, closing out the final confrontation between the two before the event.
Saints earned his shot at Night of Champions by defeating Carmelo Hayes on the June 19 episode of SmackDown in a match that determined the new No. 1 contender to the championship. That win was also surrounded by controversy, as Hayes hit the back of his head on an exposed turnbuckle.
Williams won the United States Championship by defeating Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 42, and has since appeared alongside Yachty as one of SmackDown’s featured acts.
