Brie Bella suffered a legit shoulder injury on night one of SummerSlam this past Saturday, Aug. 1, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
It happened during the six-woman tag against Fatal Influence, when Jacy Jayne hit Brie with a cannonball against the steel steps. The WWE Hall of Famer immediately grabbed her right shoulder and did very little the rest of the way, with the referee checking on her at ringside.
Brie finished the match and was still in the ring for The Bella Twins’ turn on Paige, but Nikki handled almost the entire beatdown after Jayne, Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid went over.
At the SummerSlam post-show press conference, Triple H confirmed Brie was hurt, saying she was treated at the stadium before being sent to the hospital for scans.
“No, she’s injured. I don’t have an update yet. She had some treatment here and has been taken to the hospital to get scans on it.
I know her shoulder seems bad. I don’t have that answer, though, but we will know soon.
That’s the nature of the game, and we will pivot accordingly.”
WWE has not announced a diagnosis or a timetable for a return. Triple H added that this appeared to be the only significant injury on the night.
The injury could impact the Bellas vs. Paige program, which was set up minutes after the match. The timing stands out, too, because Nikki had only come back from an ankle injury eight days earlier on SmackDown, and SummerSlam was her first match since being sidelined.
For Brie, it was her first SummerSlam match since 2014, when she worked Stephanie McMahon.
