Damian Priest already has his first big goal in AAA. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion wants to capture the Latin American Championship, which was left vacant after El Hijo del Vikingo’s knee surgery.
The decision came during Saturday’s episode of Lucha Libre AAA on FOX, which aired July 11 from San Luis Potosí. Dorian Roldán made his way to the ring alongside Omos, placed the blame for Vikingo’s injury on Rey Mysterio, and tried to hand the title over to the Nigerian Giant.
Rey interrupted the segment and made clear that Roldán had no authority to name a new champion. The General Manager demanded the title back, threatening to suspend Omos indefinitely, and declared the belt officially vacant.
Shortly after, Damian Priest appeared in a recorded message and officially entered the title picture. AAA will announce next week how the new champion will be crowned.
Priest made his AAA debut on the July 4 episode, where he was introduced by Rey Mysterio himself. At the time, he said he had arrived to dominate the company and put every champion on notice.
Vikingo’s injury occurred while he was preparing to face EK Prosper on WWE NXT, a day after wrestling Rey Fenix in a SmackDown taping. He underwent surgery on his left knee, and his recovery is expected to take six to eight months.
Vikingo had won the title on May 30 at Noche de Los Grandes, defeating El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. His reign came to an end after just 42 days.
