Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay are set to headline AEW All In, but the company explored other directions for the Wembley Stadium main event before settling on the matchup.
Speaking with Scott Fishman of TV Insider, Ospreay was asked about the possibility of facing MJF or Jon Moxley, as well as a potential Triple Threat. He confirmed that alternative plans were discussed but stopped short of revealing which options AEW seriously considered.
“There were definitely discussions that it could go into different directions.”
Ospreay said he believes AEW made the right call by sticking with Omega. In his view, both are among the most influential wrestlers of the past decade and represent exactly what AEW is supposed to be as the place “where the best wrestle.”
The road to the match took shape on June 28 at Forbidden Door, where Ospreay defeated Swerve Strickland in the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament final to earn an AEW World Championship shot.
Days later on July 8, Omega defeated MJF on the “Beach Break” episode of Dynamite to capture the AEW World Championship for the second time. Ospreay played a direct role in the finish, preventing MJF from using the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
Omega and Ospreay go back to 2015, when they first crossed paths in PWG. They’ve since added chapters at Wrestle Kingdom 17 and Forbidden Door 2023.
