Roman Reigns finally got one back on Seth Rollins. In the main event of Night 2 of WWE SummerSlam at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Reigns pinned his former Shield teammate to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
Rollins went to work on the champion’s head before the bell even rang, coming out in a white Shield-style vest.
The two traded big spots throughout. Rollins put Reigns through one announce table with a powerbomb, and Reigns returned the favor through the other later in the match.
Both men worked in nods to Jon Moxley down the stretch, with Rollins hitting the Lunatic Lariat and Reigns busting out the Paradigm Shift.
Reigns then wiped out the referee with a Spear by mistake. With no official to count, Rollins grabbed a chair and set up a recreation of the 2014 chair shot that broke up The Shield, only for Reigns to cut him off before he could swing.
In the finish, Reigns avoided a Stomp off the top rope and hit three straight Spears. The referee recovered, got back in the ring and made the count.
Along with the successful title defense, it was Reigns’ first pinfall win over Rollins since May 29, 2017.
