Add as a preferred source on Google Andrade El Ídolo has captured his first championship in AEW. He defeated Mark Davis at AEW Redemption on Sunday, July 26, to win the AEW National Championship.
Andrade tried to end the match immediately, hitting the DM right after the opening bell. Davis kicked out of the pinfall and used his physical advantage to take control of the match.
In the closing moments, Davis went for his finisher again, but Andrade reversed it. El Ídolo then landed a spinning back elbow and finished the match with another DM.
The loss ends Davis’s reign, which began on May 9, 2026, when he defeated Jack Perry at Collision: Fairway to Hell. Ricochet and Perry are the only other two wrestlers to have held the title, making Andrade the fourth champion in its history.
The victory also adds another chapter to Andrade’s feud with the Don Callis Family. After leaving the group at Forbidden Door, he vowed to strip the stable of every title it holds.
With the AEW National Championship now his, Andrade has fulfilled the first part of that promise.
