CM Punk will put the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against Gunther this Thursday, July 16, as part of the WWE Summer Tour stop in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
The confirmation came from the PPL Center, the arena hosting the house show, which billed the match as the night’s main event.
It will be Punk’s first announced title defense since winning the championship on the July 6 episode of Monday Night RAW in Chicago, where the Best in the World stepped in for Cody Rhodes and defeated Sami Zayn, ending the Canadian’s nine-day reign.
Punk took part in the tour’s first two dates alongside Rhodes, teaming up to defeat Gunther and Ricky Saints in tag matches in Las Cruces and Albuquerque. The title, however, wasn’t on the line in either match.

Thursday’s bout will also serve as a rematch from SummerSlam 2025, where Punk defeated Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship, only to lose the title minutes later when Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.
Regardless of what happens in Allentown, the two will collide again on Saturday, when Punk and Cody Rhodes take on Gunther and Sami Zayn at Saturday Night’s Main Event inside Madison Square Garden.
Punk already has a confirmed Undisputed WWE Championship defense on the books for SummerSlam, against Rhodes.
