Damian Priest may be planting the seeds for a character change in WWE. The former world champion showed visible frustration after yet another loss teaming with R-Truth on the August 21 edition of Friday Night SmackDown.
Priest and R-Truth challenged Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga of the MFT for the WWE Tag Team Championship but came up short when Truth was pinned following the Red Cross High Low.
After the match, Priest stayed in the ring looking visibly agitated as he helped Truth back to his feet. His reaction caught fans’ attention, particularly given the contrast in body language between the two partners.
Priest’s frustration has fueled speculation that WWE may be setting up a split and a potential turn for the “Archer of Infamy.”
Despite the rumors, there has been no confirmation that the company has any official plans for a Priest heel turn. His reaction could just as easily be part of a slow build toward a future feud or simply a way of showing that he’s growing tired of coming up short.
Priest and Truth previously held the WWE Tag Team Championship together before dropping the titles to the MFT.
If WWE does pull the trigger on this direction, a split between Priest and Truth could set the stage for a renewed singles push for the former Judgment Day member, who already had a significant run as World Heavyweight Champion.
