Add as a preferred source on Google Dean Ambrose is trending on Google seven years after leaving WWE, with the references to the former Shield member during the SummerSlam main event sending searches for his name through the roof.
F4WOnline noted that Google still had “Dean Ambrose” classified as trending as of 7:25 a.m. ET on Monday, August 3, roughly 11 hours after the term started to climb. Estimated search volume got as high as 200,000.
The searches picked up after Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins used moves associated with Ambrose during SummerSlam Night 2. Rollins hit the Lunatic Lariat, while Reigns hit Dirty Deeds.
Following the win, Reigns and Rollins did The Shield fist bump, and Rollins left his old Shield mask in the middle of the ring, putting a definitive end to a story that had been running for years.
The references didn’t stop there. Reigns brought up Ambrose on the post-show while talking about their early days with Rollins, saying that some people left while he and Rollins stayed in WWE and changed the company.
Despite the search spike and fans asking about a possible return, there’s no chance of that happening. Ambrose, now Jon Moxley in AEW, is one of that company’s top stars.
Back in January, Rollins said the chances of another Shield reunion were very slim. Moxley remains active in AEW, where he currently holds the Continental Championship.
