Add as a preferred source on Google El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. is back in the hunt for the AAA Latin American Championship. On this past Saturday’s episode of AAA on FOX, he defeated Abismo Negro Jr. and Texano Jr. to secure the first spot in the Fatal 4-Way Match that will crown a new champion.
In the closing stretch of the match, Abismo Negro Jr. went for an illegal shot at Wagner but missed and caught Texano Jr. instead. Wagner capitalized on the opening, landed a discus strike, and finished off Abismo with the Wagner Driver for the pin.
Before the match, Rey Mysterio announced that the new champion will be crowned at Triplemanía 34. The other three spots in the match will be filled by the winners of qualifying matches held during Verano de Escándalo.
La Parka will take on Mecha Wolf and Dragon Lee. In another qualifier, El Fiscal will square off with Cruz Del Toro and Psycho Clown. The final spot will be decided among Omos, Damian Priest, and Galeno.
The title has been vacant since July 11, when Rey Mysterio pulled the belt from circulation following a knee injury to El Hijo del Vikingo, who will need surgery and is expected to be out for several months.
Vikingo had captured the AAA Latin American Championship from Wagner himself at Noche de Los Grandes on May 30, after interference from Omos. The loss ended the 287-day reign of the Dinastía Wagner member, which began at Triplemanía 33 with a win over El Mesías.
The Fatal 4-Way Match will take place on the second night of Triplemanía 34, September 13, at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. The first night will be held September 11 at the Luxor Theater in Las Vegas.
