Add as a preferred source on Google Liv Morgan, who will defend the Women’s World Championship against IYO SKY this Saturday on SummerSlam Night 1, explained how a routine training session at the WWE Performance Center led to her coming up with ObLIVion, her finisher.
During a recent ESPN interview, Morgan was asked how she came up with the move and said:
“I was just training. I was just training at the Performance Center for a couple weeks and sometimes I’ll see something and it’ll spark inspiration in a roundabout way and I think I’d seen like a move similar and so I was like let me just try and play around with like what I can do. I wanted something that I can hit on everyone no matter what and kind of like out of nowhere and so I was just practicing around in the Performance Center and I did the Oblivion for the first time and someone that was watching was like, ‘what is that?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know!’ They’re like, ‘it looked really, really, really great.’ So I tried it on an un-televised match and it got such a sick reaction, and I was like, ‘oh, that’s like my new finish’, and so that’s really just what happened. I was just playing around.”
Morgan’s account also fills in a missing piece of the move’s early history on WWE TV. She first used it on the Jan. 27, 2020, episode of Raw, defeating Lana. WWE referred to the move only as a “springboard flatliner” that night.
The ObLIVion name debuted on WWE TV three months later, on the April 27, 2020, episode of Raw, when Morgan used the move to beat Ruby Riott. That means the strong reaction Morgan mentioned from a non-televised match came before the move’s TV debut and before WWE gave it a name.
Since then, ObLIVion has been part of some of the biggest wins of Morgan’s career. In 2024, Morgan used the move to beat Becky Lynch and win the Women’s World Championship at King and Queen of the Ring. On Jan. 31, 2026, Morgan also eliminated Tiffany Stratton with the move to win the women’s Royal Rumble.
The move could once again factor into the finish at SummerSlam. IYO SKY earned the title shot after beating Morgan in the Queen of the Ring final on June 27, 2026.
