Richard Holliday may be very close to ending his long run on the independent circuit and starting a new chapter of his career with WWE.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE sources believe the former MLW wrestler will sign with NXT. That backs up an earlier report, which pointed to strong interest from the company and the possibility that Holliday had already signed.

At one point, there were plans to announce Holliday as part of WWE ID during WrestleMania 42 weekend in Las Vegas this past April. For reasons that were never made clear, however, the announcement never happened.

The rumors surrounding Holliday’s future gained even more steam this past Sunday during GCW Melee in Manchester, New Hampshire.

After losing to Bear Bronson, Holliday remained seated in the middle of the ring, greeted his opponent, and took off his boots. He then left his gear in the ring and bowed to the crowd in a clear farewell gesture.

Despite that, Holliday still has previously announced commitments on the independent circuit. Among them is a Gotham Wrestling taping scheduled for July 28 in West Nyack, New York. So far, he has not publicly commented on the rumors involving WWE.

Holliday is best known for his tenure in MLW, where he formed The Dynasty with MJF and Alexander Hammerstone, capturing the MLW World Tag Team Championship alongside the current AEW star.

The wrestler also overcame stage four Hodgkin’s lymphoma, announcing he was in remission in April 2023 before returning to the ring.
