WWE may be building to Roman Reigns vs. Oba Femi for the night two main event at WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is planning the match. He noted, however, that plans could still change before the show.
“The belief is they are building to Reigns vs. Femi as the main event on the Sunday.”
Nick Khan said this week that WWE’s key creative plans for WrestleMania 43 are already in place, though everything is still subject to change because of injuries or other unforeseen circumstances.
The idea of saving Reigns vs. Femi for WrestleMania has been talked about for months. Meltzer previously explained that WWE could’ve booked the match at SummerSlam but decided to wait.
“They could put Oba over Roman. They could’ve sat here and gone, ‘We’ve got to make a new star. Let’s put Oba over Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.’ They could’ve done it.”
Femi defeated Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam. Three days later, Lesnar officially confirmed his retirement from the ring, closing out their rivalry and leaving Femi even more established at the top of WWE.
“That is the mentality. You get him over. The idea is he’s an unbeatable monster, and we take our time to get to WrestleMania.”
Femi has been protected on WWE programming. At Sunday Night’s Main Event on September 6, he defeated Bron Breakker by disqualification after Bronson Reed interfered.
