Brie Bella is looking at three to six months on the shelf after fracturing her scapula at SummerSlam. The WWE Hall of Famer says the exact timeline depends on how the bone heals.
Brie shared the update on a post-SummerSlam edition of The Nikki & Brie Show. The good news: after seeing doctors, she won’t need surgery. For now, the plan is to let the fracture heal on its own.
Brie broke down the diagnosis:
“He was like, ‘It’s really hard to break your scapula. No one does surgery on scapulas. If you really want it, there is one doctor that can do it. But honestly, it’s like breaking your ribs, in a way. You just wait until they slowly heal.’ And so that’s what I have to do. From there, you guys, I’m out for three to six months. So it all depends how my scapula heals. I like to think us Bellas, our bones heal quick. But, the scapula’s kind of a tricky one.”
The injury came during the August 1 Six-Woman Tag Team Match, where Brie, Nikki Bella, and Paige lost to Fatal Influence’s Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid. Brie got hurt on a Cannonball spot from Jayne into the steel steps but stressed she doesn’t blame her for what happened.
Even though she knew right away something was wrong, Brie finished the match. She said officials considered stopping it, and WWE told her to stay out of parts of the action.
Brie will get X-rays every two weeks to track the fracture and is expected to start physical therapy in about two weeks.
The injury also puts the angle that started right after the match in question. Despite the loss, Nikki and Brie turned on Paige, ending their alliance.
