Grayson Waller Gets Unexpected Backing for His Harsh Criticism of WWE NXT

Je’Von Evans, now part of the Monday Night RAW roster, backed Grayson Waller’s scathing criticism of the WWE NXT men’s division and said he hopes Waller’s words light a fire under the brand’s male talent.

Waller returned to NXT on July 28 and pulled no punches. Along with going after Austin Theory and Cruz Montana, he called out the men’s roster as complacent and flat-out said the women’s division is operating at a higher level right now.

Speaking with The Wrestling Classic during SummerSlam week, Evans was asked about the controversial promo and said Waller was simply telling the truth:

“Oh, I mean, he was being real. He was being honest, you feel me? I feel like the roster, they’re trying to do their thing, but the women are going crazy right now, especially in NXT, you feel me? And so, I really hope that woke up the men’s roster because if it didn’t, then Grayson is going to have to take over and become champion. And I feel like nobody really wants that.”

Evans’ comments come at a pivotal time for Waller. On the August 11 episode of NXT, he faces Cruz Montana in a #1 Contender’s Match, with the winner earning a shot at Tony D’Angelo’s NXT Championship at Heatwave on August 30.

Evans knows NXT’s current landscape well. Before his call-up to RAW in January, Shawn Michaels revealed he had wanted to build the brand around the Young OG for another year and even asked WWE to hold off on promoting him.

Evans and Waller have also squared off twice in 2026, with the Young OG picking up wins on the March 23 RAW and the July 9 Main Event.

Whether the men’s division responds to Waller’s challenge or he rides all the way to the NXT Championship and uses the title to prove his point remains to be seen.
