Kairi Sane’s future in pro wrestling remains up in the air with AEW All In just days away on August 30 at Wembley Stadium in London. Her name has gained traction as a possible surprise involving Thekla, who still has no match announced for the pay-per-view.
During a recent Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp was asked whether AEW might be keeping Thekla off the card to set up a surprise Kairi debut. Sapp made clear, however, that no contract had been signed as of the time of recording.
“As of right this moment, as I film this—the last weekend of August, or the second-to-last weekend of August—Kairi isn’t signed to any company. There’s still work to be done on that.”
Sapp added that he’s unsure what AEW has planned for Thekla at All In, calling it strange that the former AEW Women’s World Champion still doesn’t have a defined role on the show.
“I’m not sure what Thekla is doing at All In, but she absolutely deserves to be on the card in a substantial way. The fact that she isn’t, as of yet, is kind of weird because she is huge for them, and she should probably be winning on that card as things stand.”
Kairi was released by WWE in April 2024 and officially became a free agent in July once her 90-day non-compete clause expired. Fightful has since reported that multiple companies have expressed interest in signing her. She is also now represented by Barry Bloom, the agent who handles AEW talent including Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, and The Young Bucks.
Kairi recently told ShuPro that she has received offers from multiple companies in Japan and other countries but has not yet made a final decision on her next move.
Thekla herself has voiced interest in reuniting with Kairi. In May, the Austrian said she could easily picture Kairi in AEW, noting that the two shared the ring during their time in STARDOM.
