Seth Rollins showed up at U.S. Bank Stadium for Night 2 of SummerSlam with a callback to one of the defining stretches of his career.
During the Countdown pre-show, which is currently airing ahead of the main card, WWE ran footage of Rollins walking through the backstage area in an all-black suit and a skull mask.
The look wasn’t an accident. Rollins challenges Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Title in tonight’s main event, the first singles match between the former Shield brothers since the 2022 Royal Rumble.
Rollins leaned on that history back then, too. He came through the crowd to The Shield’s old music while wearing his original gear, got inside Reigns’ head and ended up winning by disqualification.
WWE went back to that well on the go-home Raw before SummerSlam. Reigns grabbed a chair and tried to take Rollins out the same way Rollins turned on him and The Shield in 2014, only to eat a Stomp instead.
Rollins also holds a slight edge in the head-to-head singles series with five wins, four losses and one draw.
